At this point, we’re pretty used to hearing about new and sort of wacky hybrid foods — just in the last few days, we were introduced to the unlikely pairings of red wine and cold brew coffee, as well as Sriracha ice cream sundaes. It’s safe to say that it takes a lot to shock anyone these days when it comes to new snacks. But we admit it, we’re a little surprised by Sonic’s newest menu item: a pickle juice slush. The briny slushie is coming to stores near you, and many want in. If you can stand it, we’ve got the details on where you can get the pickle juice slush.
The drink is pretty much exactly what it sounds like, which is pickle juice, but in slushie form. Imagine the juice left in a jar of pickles, but icier.
That’s pretty much what you can expect from the pickle juice slush, except it will be a bright green color that just doesn’t seem very natural, to be perfectly honest.
Taste testers over at Food & Wine tried the pickle juice slush already, and they said it was “surprisingly delicious,” explaining that it was, “sweet and tangy, the bright brine compensates for the over-savoriness you might have been worried about.”
And there’s more! The Sonic team said that once the slushie is rolled out, you’ll be able to add that sweet pickle syrup to pretty much anything. Maybe you want a shot of the stuff in a different shake, if you’re feeling adventurous — or maybe you want some on your fries instead of ketchup. Go crazy!
Unfortunately, though, you’ll have to wait a little while to give this a taste test — the slushie is slated to roll out at Sonic drive-in restaurants nationwide in June. So you’ll be able to buy a pickle juice slush at any Sonic, you’ll just have to wait a few months for the item to become available.
