A waitress in Illinois was collecting a receipt from one of her tables when she discovered that rather than a tip, she received a hateful message about her rainbow tattoo .

The tip-less receipt and hateful note, left at a Buffalo Wild Wings, was a response to the waitress’s tattoo: a rainbow in the shape of the equality sign to support LGBTQ rights. The 20-year-old waitress, named Samantha Heaton, is gay, though she didn’t discuss her sexual orientation when she was serving the family of five.

Heaton is also a Christian and was saddened to see such behavior. She expressed concern not just for the LGBTQ community, but also for the children influenced by their parents’ prejudice.

Equally stunned, her colleague shared a photo of the tip-less receipt on Facebook to fight back against bigotry. The post has more than 1,000 likes, 600 shares, and 400 comments.

Heaton said the incident inspired her to keep fighting for what she believes in.

We’re with you, Samantha!
