This woman's song perfectly captures the hypocrisy of "it's a scary time for men"—and it's going viral
Before Brett Kavanaugh was appointed to the Supreme Court, the allegations of sexual assault against him prompted President Donald Trump to declare that it is “a very scary time for young men.” The president—and many of his allies—argued that Kavanaugh had been falsely accused and that the same thing could happen to others. But one genius woman wrote a song that perfectly deconstructs this flawed line of “logic.”
According to HuffPost, Lynzy Lab, a dance teacher at Texas State University, uploaded a video of herself singing the song to YouTube on October 7th, one day after Kavanaugh’s confirmation was announced. Lab’s video has been watched more than 200,000 times on YouTube and retweeted more than 81,000 times.
In the song, titled, “A Scary Time,” Lab lists the many (many) ways that it’s always a scary time for women.
She continues to list all the things women are afraid to do because of rape culture, highlighting just how much fear is a normal part of women’s daily lives. She then contrasts these fears with the ironic notion that it’s a “scary” time for men.
You can listen to the poignant song below:
Lab ends her video with a powerful call to action, telling her listeners to go out and vote in the 2018 midterm elections on November 6th. It’s a scary time for women—but voting in the midterms has the potential to make things a little less frightening.
