United Airlines is changing a company-wide policy after a video of a passenger being forcibly removed from a flight sparked national outrage.

The change, announced through an internal company email on April 14th, will require crew members to book must-ride flights at least 60 minutes before departure.

This means crew members will no longer be able to displace passengers who are already aboard the aircraft.

The policy comes after cell phone video of airport employees violently dragging United passenger Dr. David Dao from the plane, after he was randomly selected to give up his seat to a crew member. Their treatment of Dr. Dao put him in the hospital with a broken nose that may require surgery, two broken teeth, and a concussion.

Maggie Schmerin, spokeswoman for United Airlines, wrote in an email Sunday that this is just one of many new policies to ensure that this never happens again.
