The 2018 Winter Olympics are finally here, and we could not be more excited. Some of the Olympians are new faces, but others — like Tucker West — might be familiar to you. West participated in the 2014 Winter Olympics at Sochi, where he became the youngest man to ever qualify for a U.S. Olympic luge squad at 18 years old.
Even more memorable? West’s dad, Brett, posted on social media at the time encouraging girls to reach out to his “shy” and then-single son. And it (understandably) went viral.
Known for his excellence on the track, the Olympian made headlines in 2014 when he became the first U.S. man to win a World Cup luge race since 1997. So yeah, we’re a teensy bit disappointed to discover that dad’s attempt to find him a match totally worked and took Tucker West off the market.
So, who’s the 22-year-old from Danbury, Connecticut seeing? Her name is Raychel Germaine, a fellow member of Team USA and a fellow luger. The two have actually known each other since West was 13 (awww), which is totally adorable. (Sorry, Dad!)
They met up again in 2008 at a USA Luge camp and started dating in 2016. Now, the two are neighbors at the Olympic Training Center in Lake Placid, and they’re basically inseparable.
See for yourself!
Tucker West and Raychel Germaine both really love puppies, and we honestly couldn’t relate more. Maybe we can have a puppy playdate together?
“They are really, really good for each other,” said Chris Mazdzer, another member of Team USA’s luge squad who’s also in Pyeonchang. “And I don’t say that about a lot of relationships, so me saying that actually means a lot.”
Sadly enough, Germaine didn’t qualify for the 2018 Olympics, but that doesn’t mean she isn’t cheering on her teammates — and West — at the Pyeongchang Games.
We’re totally #TeamTucker, and we love seeing this couple pursue athletic excellence together. Be sure to follow our ongoing Olympics coverage for the latest!
