After being thrust into the spotlight when news outlets reported that President Donald Trump said her deceased husband “knew what he was signing up for” when he was killed in action, Myeshia Johnson appeared on Good Morning America today to clarify what was said during that now-infamous phone call. And, as he often does, Trump quickly responded to Johnson’s comments via Twitter.
Trump responded with the following:
Johnson was also asked to clarify if Trump had, in fact, said her husband “knew what we was signing up for” (as opposed to, say, calling him a hero and offering condolences). Johnson said the account was “100 percent correct.”
While this has unfortunately become a “he said, she said” scenario, many are pointing out that if nothing else, the pregnant widow of a fallen soldier should be left alone — and certainly not called a liar.
For her part, Johnson remained strong during the interview, saying, “I want the world to know how great of a soldier my husband was and a loving and caring father and husband he was to our family.”
We’re listening, Myeshia. We thank La David for his service and are sending all our condolences to you and your family during this difficult time.
