After being told she shouldn't wear a bikini, this woman fired back in the best way possible
When you’re wandering around your favorite store in search of new clothes, the last thing you want to feel is a lack of confidence. A clothing store should never be a place where you feel shameful about your body, or get shamed by others about your body. Yet, not long ago, one woman unfortunately revealed that this isn’t always the case.
While 24-year-old Jes P Ortelli was shopping in the Brighton store Matalan, she decided to try on a bikini. As she was in line to get into the changing rooms, Ortelli was confronted by a fellow shopper, a woman who noticed the bikini in her hand and felt the need to say something. On Facebook, Jes revealed, “The girl at the store today said that ‘girls like me’ shouldn’t wear a bikini!”
Instead of letting this woman’s negativity affect her, Jes decided to share her story so she could raise awareness about body shaming. Alongside a stunning photo of herself wearing the bikini, Jes wrote, “Well, girl let me tell you something, I’m happy with myself and my biiiigggg tummy with tiger stripes, but you could have said the same thing to the girl who finally got out there and had the courage to wear a bikini and you just killed her confidence with one stupid comment.” She emphasizes that you can look and feel good at any size, especially because confidence is what makes someone sexy.
It turns out that Matalan’s employees agree with Jes because they ended up giving her a discount on her bikini. “Thank you for fat shaming me, thanks to you I got an awesome discount on my bikini,” Jes concludes in her post. “Much love, #fat, #confident girl! Xxx”
While we are extremely disappointed in the body shamer who criticized Jes, we are immensely proud of Jes for fighting back in the name of body positivity. She is an inspiration to people everywhere – no matter what their size.
