Tinder just rolled out a looping video feature, and this could get weird
Update, July 5th, 2018, 7:55 a.m. PST: Tinder Loops are officially available in the U.S., so go forth, add videos to your profile, and loop in the next love of your life (or just your next dinner date — whatevs).
Even though Tinder hasn’t changed too much in the six years since it launched, we’re all for our favorite dating apps getting an upgrade. So we’re intrigued to hear that Tinder is testing out a looping video feature à la Instagram’s popular Boomerang videos, and this could get interesting.
On Wednesday, April 4th, the brand introduced the new feature called Tinder Loops, describing it as a two-second looping video option to make your profile even more interactive. Designed to allow users to better showcase their personalities, Tinder looping videos will let you show off those sweet dance moves or that time you pet a giraffe.
Currently only available to users with iOS devices in Canada and Sweden, Tinder looping allows you to upload existing videos from your device into the app. You can then edit the video into a two-second clip, looping in potential love interests…get it?
Tinder is also toying with the idea of adding nine Loops and photos to your profile instead of six, allowing us to showcase even more of ourselves to potential matches.
In a statement to PC Magazine, Tinder Chief Product Officer Brian Norgard said, “With the addition of video, users have a new way to express themselves while also gaining key insights into the lives of potential matches.” He added, “Whether it’s dancing at a concert, doing cartwheels on the beach, or clinking glasses with friends, Loops makes profiles come alive. We anticipate Tinder Loops will lead to even more matches and conversations and look forward to seeing how our users creatively adopt the feature.”
So basically, the new Tinder looping videos will allow you to express yo’self however you see fit, and we’ll swipe to that.
