Tiffany Haddish made everyone’s jaws drop when she stepped out on the 2018 Oscars red carpet looking like an actual queen. The 38-year-old comedienne sported a white dress and a black blazer, both embellished with beautiful and intricate embroidery.

Speaking to Good Morning America, Haddish said she picked an authentic Eritrean ensemble to honor her late father. “My father is from Eritrea. He passed away last year and he said, one day, I would end up here. And if I ever ended up at the Oscars to honor my people, so I’m honoring my fellow Eritreans.”

It was touching move for Haddish to fulfill her promise to her late father, but we’re a wee bit curious — who is Tiffany Haddish’s father, anyway?

With a little bit of digging, we found out that his name is Tsihaye Reda Haddish, and he came from an Eritrean Jewish family. Tsehaye was pretty much absent for most of Tiffany’s life, although they had a handful of sporadic encounters.

In an appearance on Celebrity Medium last year, Tiffany Haddish opened up about eventually meeting her dad, who had been residing in Philadelphia all along.

She went on to explain that she wanted to reconnect, and even offered to take care of him.

It’s unclear whether or not they eventually had a chance to bond before he died, but back in May of last year, Tiffany shared via Instagram that her father was suffering from heart failure and pneumonia. She also shared a heartwarming father-daughter moment when Tsihaye walked her down the aisle, even though she married against his wishes.

She ended the post saying that she hopes that he lives so he can see her win awards, get re-married, and meet her future children.

Tiffany, with the way you continue to make the whole world laugh with your humor and relatable personality, we’re sure that your father is immensely proud of you — and laughing right along with us.
