Teachers are truly exceptional individuals. And Beth Battista is definitely one of the best. Battista is a preschool teacher who donated a kidney to one of her students, and if that’s not the most selfless act in the world, we seriously don’t know what is.

When Battista found out that 5-year-old Lyla Carreyn was in need of a transplant, she quickly volunteered. The transplant happened just this year in Madison, Wisconsin, and both of them are currently recovering from the procedure.

Lyla was diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disorder called microscopic polyangiitis last year, and Battista couldn’t help but feel moved by her story.

In an interview with Inside Edition, Battista admitted that she felt compelled to help the child avoid a life of dialysis and hospital visits.

The whole segment will melt your heart.

According to Inside Edition, the family searched hard for a possible donor and came up short, before Battista turned out to be an ideal and willing match.

When Battista realized that her kidney could help save Lyla, she decided to surprise Lyla’s mom, Dena Carreyn, with the news.

Miracles do happen! And thanks to this incredible gift, Battista will always hold a special place in the hearts of the Carreyn family.

We love the fact that Beth Battista is the type of person who truly wants to make this world a better place, both with her career and her incredible actions.
