Chris Sullivan had food poisoning while filming the "This Is Us" finale, but that wasn't going to come between #KaToby
The Season 2 finale of This Is Us was one for the books. We got to catch a glimpse of what it would be like if Jack had not died and see #KaToby finally tie the knot. It was a sob-fest of an episode, as usual, and was made even more surreal by the things going on behind the scenes. While Chris Sullivan — the actor who plays Toby — was filming the This Is Us finale, he wasn’t particularly in tip-top shape. He was actually suffering from food poisoning, but that didn’t stop him from delivering a stellar performance.
Hey, in sickness and in health, right?
Sullivan popped by The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon to have a quick chat about the season wrap-up. He even compared the Kate and Toby wedding to the one he had IRL; he’s been married to film producer Rachel Reichard for more than half a decade now.
“At my real wedding, I wore a traditional Celtic garb, a kilt. At Kate and Toby’s wedding I had food poisoning,” he said, adding that filming involved a lot of “heavy breathing” and “some sweating.”
He didn’t disclose how he got food poisoning, but we’re betting our bottom dollar that it had something to do with a dish cooked by a Crock-Pot…
In all seriousness, though, we’re so impressed! Toby really would stop at nothing to marry Kate, even if that meant standing firmly at the altar, trying hard not to puke his guts out.
Although This Is Us, for the most part, is brimming with emotional scenes, Sullivan shared that he likes to play around with his lines.
He even tries to inject the show’s title into his scenes.
Season 3 won’t come for another few months, but he gave us an inside scoop on what to expect.
Right on, TOBLERONE! While we’re counting the days ’til This Is Us Season 3, we’re just going to be here binge-watching the previous seasons. Because…this is us.
