Everyone can rest assured now, because Beth Pearson isn’t going anywhere.

Last week, an emotionally crippling rumor that Beth might die on This Is Us made rounds on the internet and sent fans into a frenzy. And now, it is with great pleasure that we inform you that there is no truth to that gossip, and Beth will NOT be pulling a Jack Pearson. A tragic death is not in the cards for our dear Beth, and THANK GOODNESS.

Just as we were planning our “Save Beth Pearson” petition for the This Is Us writers, executive producer and co-showrunner Isaac Aptaker made it clear that the beloved character will live to see another day.

Phew! We honestly wouldn’t know what we would do if we were to lose Beth, so we’re happy that the team behind This Is Us is nice enough to spare us from going into a panic spiral. The TVLine blind item suggesting that a popular drama that’s been on the air for less than three seasons is exploring a season-ending plot that would have “a pivotal character being diagnosed with terminal cancer” might not be about Beth after all, as Refinery29 theorized (while pointing to other big clues, too). Let’s just hope the rest of the Pearsons are okay!

Another piece of good news? Aptaker says that the next set of episodes will involve less crying and induce more smiling and happy dancing:

Glad to know we’ll be saving on the cost of tissues — at least for the time being.

This Is Us returns on February 27th at 9 p.m. on NBC.
