Between ice cream and Dunkin’ Donuts coffee, Girl Scout cookie-flavored food products are here to stay. But have we, as a society, gone way too far with the latest cookie-themed iteration? Snack brand Biena has created Thin Mint-flavored chickpeas with the Girl Scouts of the USA’s official licensing, and we’re not sure if this is the best idea we’ve ever heard or the worst.
According to Biena, the snack starts with Biena’s classic Sea Salt Chickpeas, which are then covered in fair trade dark chocolate and Thin Mint flavoring, making a low-calorie way to get your chocolate and cookie fix all at once.
The Thin Mint Chickpeas clock in at 130 calories per serving, which is lower than the 161 calories per four cookie serving of Thin Mints — and the ingredients are healthier for you, because chickpeas.
“There are few things Americans anticipate more than Girl Scout Cookie season, so we are very excited to offer a chickpea snack inspired by the classic flavor of Thin Mints cookies,” Poorvi Patodia, Biena’s CEO, said in the release. “We’ve combined Biena’s good-for-you Chickpea Snacks with the timeless taste of Thin Mints cookies, all for 130 calories and 4 grams of protein and fiber. It’s a refreshingly delicious snack.”
Sounds good to us, and we’re definitely willing to give it a try — even though when you think about snacking on chickpeas, you think of more savory flavors. But who knows? It could end up being a home run.
If you’re dying to try the Thin Mint chickpeas, they hit Whole Foods shelves in June. Biena will also be launching Dark Chocolate and Salted Caramel flavors at the same time, so if you’re not into the idea of the Thin Mint flavor, you definitely have options (plus the flavors Biena already offers, like Sea Salt, Honey Roasted, Barbecue, and Habañero).
We’re already missing Girl Scout cookie season, so this sounds good to us. Honestly, can anything that tastes like Thin Mints be bad?
