It’s been less than a year since Taylor Swift wrapped up her Reputation World Tour, but the singer has wasted no time in teasing new projects. In October, at her acceptance speech during the 2018 AMAs, she said she was “even more excited for the next chapter,” leading some fans to believe that she was working on a seventh studio album. And recently, she’s been dropping hints on Instagram about April 26th.
Swift began teasing the date’s significance on April 13th, with a close-up photo of a rhinestone-encrusted heart shared to her Instagram. Since then, she’s posted two other cryptic clues: A picture of hands sporting pink and blue nail polish on April 14th, and a zoomed-in shot of what looks like pink tulle on April 15th. The caption of each photo simply reads “4.26,” and she also changed her Instagram bio to the same thing. The singer’s website has been taken over by a countdown to the date in question. Basically, it seems like whatever’s going down is a big freaking deal.
Swifties have plenty of theories. Many fans are speculating that the announcement will have something to do with a new album, and some have suggested that the lead single will be released on the 26th (with the album following later this year).
Of course, Swift still hasn’t confirmed anything about new music. The Hollywood Reporter notes that in her acceptance speech for the Tour of the Year award at the 2019 iHeart Radio Music Awards, she addressed her fans, saying, “When there’s new music, you’ll be the first to know.”
In the meantime, we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for any more hints about what’s coming our way on April 26th.
