Taylor Swift and Demi Lovato shut down rumors that they're feuding—and we have the receipts to prove it
Taylor Swift and Demi Lovato have known each other for over a decade. But recently, rumors of a feud have been swirling. Now, Lovato is shutting them down once and for all—and there are receipts on Instagram to prove it. First, some background: After Scooter Braun bought out her masters in June, Swift accused him of “bullying” her, and celebrities quickly took sides. One of those celebs was Lovato, a new client of Braun’s.
“I have dealt with bad people in this industry and Scooter is not one of them. He’s a good man. Personally, I’m grateful he came into my life when he did. Please stop “dragging” people or bullying them. There’s enough hate in this world as it is,” Lovato wrote on her Instagram Story.
In August, Lovato celebrated her birthday with Braun, which Swifties interpreted as deliberate shade toward Taylor. Then, a few days later, Swifties accused Lovato of shading Taylor even further by not attending the VMAs, where Tay performed. Finally, Lovato had enough and decided to put rumors of their feud to rest.
On September 2nd, Lovato posted on her Instagram Story that she was listening to Taylor’s catchy new track “Cruel Summer” off of her album Lover. She called it “a jam” and included the raised hands emoji, which is basically the highest compliment one can give.
But Lovato didn’t stop there. She also addressed the rumors of their supposed feud head-on.
“Life’s too short for women to not support other women,” Lovato wrote, “especially when women release great music. Great job @taylorswift.” The short but sweet note ended with a clapping emoji, another raised hands emoji, and a double heart.
Swift immediately took note and reposted Lovato’s Instagram Story to her own Story.
“This is so awesome & put the biggest smile on my face,” Taylor added. “Thank you @ddlovato.” If there was any question about how sincere Swift’s post was, she added rotating hearts and a GIF of two smiling cats hugging with even more hearts emanating from their embrace. In case you don’t speak Taylor, that’s the equivalent of “I love you so much, consider us besties.”
The pair go way back. Here’s a picture of them at an L.A. Kings hockey game in January 2009.
Despite all of the hearts and raised hands, Taylor and Demi still don’t follow each other on Instagram. But, to be fair, Taylor doesn’t follow anybody on Instagram. Maybe things will change now that she’s in a new era of love and happiness. Whatever happens, just know that there’s nothing but love between the two singers. Is it too soon to ask for a collab?
