Stranger Things Season 4 is officially happening, and we just hope this fan theory isn't true
Updated: September 30th, 2019
It’s official. Stranger Things Season 4 is happening with the Duffer Brothers at the helm. The creative partners just signed a multi-year deal with Netflix, reported today, September 3oth, which means we’re in for more Hawkins mayhem, Upside Down monsters, and ’80s nostalgia.
“We are absolutely thrilled to continue our relationship with Netflix,” the brothers said in a statement, per Variety. “From our first pitch meeting to the release of Stranger Things 3, the entire team at Netflix has been nothing short of sensational, providing us with the kind of support, guidance, and creative freedom we always dreamed about. We can’t wait to tell many more stories together — beginning, of course, with a return trip to Hawkins!”
Needless to say, the Season 4 announcement sent the internet ablaze.
Even Netflix seems not to be ready for what the Duffers have planned.
We are so ready for Season 4, it isn’t even funny. We just hope this fan theory doesn’t turn out to be true…

Warning: Spoilers for Stranger Things Season 3 ahead.
If you have yet to watch the third season of Netflix’s Stranger Things, then turn back now because we’re already getting into our Season 4 excitement. However, for those of us who did watch, get a load of this new fan theory: Eleven, played by Millie Bobby Brown, may just be the villain in Season 4.
No! Say it ain’t so!
Truth be told, there’s a lot of evidence to prove that Eleven has been set up to be next season’s antagonist, as outlined by Reddit user weedmonkey666 in an August 5th post in the r/FanTheories subreddit. Basically, this theory revolves around the scene in Season 3 during which Eleven has an encounter with the Mind Flayer in Hopper’s cabin, resulting in a nasty monster bite on her shin.
Although she was saved by her friends, El’s leg was still infected with a piece of the Mind Flayer’s flesh for a good portion of the episode. That is, until she extracted it from her own body. Gruesome. Truly gruesome.
If you recall the others who also became infected by the Mind Flayer—Billy and the rest of the flayed in Season 3, and Will in the first two seasons—they were wholly possessed by the creature and reduced to mere pawns in his game. You see where this is going?
When Eleven dislodged the Mind Flayer slug from her shin, did she effectively remove the danger of possession? Or has the damage already been done? And if it has, who the heck is supposed to save the world if she is in Mind Flayer la la land?
Will her possible possession mean humanity is done for? Her powers matched with the Mind Flayer’s determination to exterminate will surely cause the apocalypse to start in Hawkins, Indiana, right? We’re stress sweating. (That is, if Eleven’s powers come back at all. More stress sweating.)
In the comments section of the post, someone suggests that a similar plot may be set up in Season 4, except Eleven won’t be the villain—it’ll be a revived Hopper. That would honestly send us over the edge.
Of course, there’s a lot of feedback on this Reddit post, so we highly suggest thumbing through the theories when you have a moment. Your head will spin as you read about the doom that our beloved Stranger Things cast will likely endure come Season 4.
Just don’t ruin Steve and Dustin’s friendship, Stranger Things. That’s all we ask.
