It’s been a crazy year since Donald Trump took residence in the Oval Office. Unfortunately, this is only the beginning. Trump is preparing for his first State of the Union address on Tuesday, January 30th. Officials have announced that the theme for his speech will be “a safe, strong, and proud America.”

Yep. You read that correctly.

While Trump campaigned on the promise to “Make America Great Again,” the last year has truthfully been anything but great. From the recent government shutdown to the shocking number of people killed by white supremacists in 2017, America has been reeling from Trump’s election in more ways than one, and the divisive nature of Trump’s presidency definitely isn’t helping.

No doubt Trump will tout the controversial Republican tax reform bill during his State of the Union address, which will also touch on topics such as infrastructure, immigration reform, and a new approach to international trade. While officials have said the speech will focus on domestic issues, Trump is also expected to address growing tensions with North Korea.

The State of the Union comes during some pretty hefty controversy, including recent news that Trump reportedly tried to have Robert Mueller fired amid the ongoing investigation into alleged collusion between Russia and the Trump campaign. Not to mention Trump’s “shithole countries” remarks that have left most Americans feeling a little less than proud.

Obviously, Twitter had some funny (and serious) thoughts about the “safe, strong, and proud” State of the Union theme.

Others called out the tragedies that have already befallen the country in 2018.

Admittedly, this Twitter user had some unrealistic expectations for Trump’s State of the Union address.

What are your thoughts on the upcoming State of the Union theme? Will you be watching (or tweeting) Trump’s address?
