Anna Kendrick has officially retired from living the acapella life and has now ventured into mommy blogging territory. In the latest trailer for A Simple Favor, Kendrick plays Stephanie Ward, a woman who crosses paths with Blake Lively’s Emily Nelson at their sons’ school.
Now there are three things you should know about Blake’s Emily. For starters, she NEVER wants her picture taken. She’s also insanely rich, living in a swanky home and always donning such expensive garb. Plus, she’s extremely secretive — Stephanie wants to be friends with her anyway. “You do not want to be friends with me. Trust me,” Emily quips. TALK ABOUT SHADY.
One day, Emily calls Stephanie for “a simple favor.” (Hey, that’s the name of the movie!) She asks her new friend to come over, but only for Stephanie to find out that Emily has mysteriously disappeared. As in, Amy Dunne in Gone Girl kind of vanishing. One minute, she’s there, the next one, she’s gone — it’s like she faded into thin air.
What the hell happened? Where did she go? Is she even still alive? Did her husband put her into this? Did she suddenly get called into a mission and we later find out that she’s an undercover spy? Well, it’s up to Stephanie to find out where she is. And if Emily is even her real name. For such a shady person like her, you never know what the jig is up.
Rounding out the cast for A Simple Favor are Crazy Rich Asians’ Henry Goulding, Andrew Rannells, Linda Cardellini, Jean Smart, and Rupert Friend. It’s directed by the genius behind Bridesmaids and Ghostbusters, Paul Feig, and written by Jessica Sharzer based on the novel by Darcey Bell.
Where in the world is Emily? You’ll find out when A Simple Favor hits theaters on September 14th.
