A mom transformed a Barbie into an amazing Shuri doll, and #goals

In Marvel’s Black Panther, there were a lot of characters to love. T’Challa, the Black Panther himself, is noble, heroic, and admirable. Killmonger was a complex, layered villain. Nakia is brave, strong, and empathetic. I could go on forever talking about all of the awesome characters in the movie, but one of the biggest surprises in the film was the unmatchable awesomeness of T’Challa’s younger sister, Princess Shuri.

Shuri isn’t just a member of the Wakandan royal family. She is also a tech genius — the smartest in the world, actually. At only 16 years old, Shuri managed to take Wakanda to huge technological heights, creating armor, weaponry, and tech that is leaps and bounds beyond the stuff you or I (or even any non-Wakandan resident in the MCU) could have ever imagined. Sure, having access to vibranium helped Wakanda become as technologically advanced as it is, but without Shuri’s sharp, creative, and clever mind, the country wouldn’t have half the advancements it did in the film.

And since Shuri is technically a Disney Princess and rocked several amazingly stylish outfits in Black Panther, it’s not surprising that more and more young fans of the movie want to see a Barbie based on the princess. Honestly, it’s a bit surprising that Barbie hasn’t come out with one yet, but one mom wasn’t about to let a lack of manufactured toys stop her. No, she took matters into her own hands and created her own Shuri Barbie. A DIY crafter over at the YouTube channel My Froggy Stuff posted a video explaining how she made her very own Shuri doll, and the results are absolutely stunning.

The skill that goes into this doll is absolutely breathtaking. Starting off with a Princess Tiana doll, this amazing crafter (who goes by Froggy on her channel) essentially takes the doll down to absolute basics, even removing the doll’s hair. She then replaces the hair with yarn and goes on to custom-make that iconic white dress that Shuri wears at the beginning of Black Panther (with a little extra flair in the back). And while the finished doll is ultimately a bit of a mashup of a few of Shuri’s looks, this doll looks absolutely amazing.

So if you need us, we’ll be heading over to the craft store to make our own Shuri. After all, you can never have too many badass women in your corner, right?
