As the fight for gender equality continues, Sheryl Sandberg’s LeanIn.org launched a campaign for equal pay. It’s called the #20PercentCountsCampaign, which references how qualified women are generally paid 20% less than men for doing the same job. That’s a pretty huge discrepancy, and the figures are even more devastating for Black and Hispanic women.

The simple campaign video depicts women getting 20% less than than expected for things like haircuts and morning coffee — when there is no logical reason AT ALL for the subtraction.

The campaign officially begins on April 4th, which People notes is a significant date because it marks “how far into 2017 women would need to work to earn what men were paid in the year prior.” When put like that, it’s really unfathomable that such an unfair gap still exists in 2017.

via giphyHopefully the campaign will be spread far and wide, because the continued discrepancy is simply unacceptable. Women deserve to receive equal pay for equal work — and it’s not a question of IF this will happen, it’s a matter of WHEN.

Thanks for continuing to be such an outspoken voice on this issue, Sheryl!
