Selena Gomez's upcoming single may spill so much tea about her breakup with Justin Bieber
Selena Gomez has been keeping a low profile—especially on social media–since her split from Justin Bieber earlier this year. She hasn’t opened up about their recent time together, nor has she commented on his engagement to Hailey Baldwin. But according to Elle magazine, there’s a strong chance Gomez’s upcoming single is about the “Sorry” singer.
In the interview, Gomez noted that she’s “selective” about what she puts out into the world in terms of social media and press junkets, but implied she’s more comfortable expressing her experiences through music. She’s currently in the studio finishing up her third studio album, which, according to Elle reporter Mickey Rapkin, includes a song about cutting a man out of her life after “1,460 days” and “cleaning my slate.”
Now, we’re not mathematicians, but Gomez and Bieber were in an on-and-off relationship for four years from 2010-2014 (and then for a little while in 2018 before calling it quits for good).
Ummm…1,460 days = four years.
And in another upcoming track, Gomez reportedly sings about her independence—and about a man who doesn’t respect her.
While it’s unconfirmed if the lyrics to these new songs are, in fact, about Bieber, it seems like it’s a possibility given the timeline of recent events. Either way, the singer seems unfazed by her ex-boyfriend and his current relationship status, and looks to be living her best life.
When she isn’t vacationing in Italy or getting matching tattoos with her BFFs, Gomez has been quietly interning at A21, a global anti–human-trafficking nonprofit.
Gomez is doing life her way, and it’s inspiring AF.
