Breaking up is never fun to do. Especially when you’re a celebrity in the spotlight and constantly asked about your relationship. On Monday, February 5th, Sarah Silverman announced her split with Michael Sheen. And she did it in true Sarah Silverman style: with humor and heart. Sarah took to Twitter and joked that the two “consciously uncoupled,” a phrase made famous by Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin when they announced their split.
ICYMI, Sarah Silverman and Michael Sheen met while filming Masters of Sex. They had been together since early 2014. The reason for their breakup? The distance. Silverman lives in L.A. and Sheen lives in the U.K., where he’s originally from. He made the move when his daughter Lily was accepted to college. “His daughter turned 18, he wanted to go home,” Silverman told Jimmy Kimmel — who also happens to be her ex — on Jimmy Kimmel Live in June 2017.
“The great @michaelsheen & I consciously uncoupled over Christmas,” Silverman tweeted. She lightened the mood with another joke: “I mean, not ‘over Christmas’ – like that wasn’t the fight that ended it. No fight. We just live in different countries & it got hard. Felt we should just tell y’all so u stop askin, ‘How’s Michael/How’s Sarah?'”
But the jokes don’t stop there. Sarah Silverman tweeted the news on Michael Sheen’s birthday.
Jokes aside, it seems like she wishes him nothing but good things. When asked how she would rate Sheen if he was an Uber driver, she simply said, “The best.”
Breakups are never fun, but laughter certainly helps.
