People are convinced that Sansa and Tyrion will take the Iron Throne together on Game of Thrones—here's why
Warning: Season 8 Game of Thrones spoilers ahead!
With only two episodes left in the final season of Game of Thrones, there are tons of theories going around the internet about who will end up on the Iron Throne. Though most assume Daenerys Targaryen or Jon Snow are the endgame, they’re not the only ones who could end up ruling the Seven Kingdoms. In fact, some fans think the show’s writers are setting up Sansa Stark and Tyrion Lannister to rule together.
There’s a ton of evidence to prove this theory might be right, too. For starters, Season 8 has led many to believe the two will form a behind-the-scenes alliance—especially after Sansa told Tyrion Jon’s secret. Then, of course, there’s that moment they had in the crypt and all the times we’ve caught them staring at each other.
Plus, the arc makes sense from a pure storytelling perspective. The pair always have had the utmost respect for one another; this plot twist would bring the two most cautious and thoughtful leaders together. Tyrion is hands down the smartest of the bunch and Sansa has proven time and again that she should not be underestimated. And it would end the conflict between their families once and for all.
Although this potential couple isn’t the love story we expected from the show, if anyone could rebuild the kingdom, it’s these two. They may not have done much during the Battle of Winterfell, but the battle for the Iron Throne is a different war altogether—and Sansa and Tyrion will have plenty of opportunities to make their moves in the final episodes.
And many on Twitter seem to agree:
This is obviously just a theory now, but if Sansa and Tyrion do end up on the Iron Throne together, it would make for an unexpected—but satisfying—ending. We’ll just have to see how it all plays out on the next episode of Game of Thrones, which airs Sunday, May 12th at 9 p.m. ET on HBO.
