Vine announced some very sad news yesterday, that Vine-er extraordinaire Ryan McHenry had lost his battle with bone cancer.

In 2013, McHenry rose to Internet-fame by teaching us all what the platform was perfect for when he created a series of hilarious Vines called, “Ryan Gosling Won’t Eat His Cereal.” Using clips from Gosling’s films, McHenry made LOL-worthy Vines poking fun at Gosling’s serious faces and making it look like the actor was doing exactly what the title suggests: not eating his cereal. The vids were so simple, and so silly that they quickly went viral racking up millions of views.

In an interview back in 2013, McHenry told the Verge that the idea for Gosling + cereal came to him while he was watching Drive and eating, yes, cereal.

In case you’ve never seen them, here’s a compilation.

27 year-old McHenry, who was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in July of 2013, passed away on Sunday. To honor McHenry, Gosling himself took to Vine to finally eat his cereal.

We’re touched.

Even throughout his battle with cancer, McHenry kept uploading Vines of Ryan and making us laugh. He was also very public about his sickness and used the platform to address it. Here’s one of the Vines that directly hit on both his situation and the reason for his Internet fame.

Gosling’s cereal eating is a sweet, short, heartfelt tribute to McHenry who made us laugh and who we are missing today. Our thoughts are with McHenry’s family and friends. We truly do, raise our spoons to you.
