Back in August, we rejoiced at the news that Ruby Rose had been cast to play Batwoman in The CW’s Arrowverse, becoming network TV’s first openly lesbian superhero. And now, the official first look at Rose as the iconic superhero is here.
Rose’s Batwoman will make her debut in December during The CW‘s four-way crossover event, which The AV Club reports will be called “Elseworlds.” She’ll also potentially return to the network for a standalone Batwoman series in the 2019-2020 season, which will make her the first LGBTQ+ superhero to lead her own show.
Today, October 9th, Entertainment Weekly shared a photo of Rose wearing the full Batwoman supersuit, designed by Colleen Atwood. The actress and model is sporting Kate Kane’s signature flowing red tresses, and a red bat symbol adorns her chest. A billowy black and red cape completes the ensemble.
Rose herself shared the first look on Instagram, using several bat and heart emojis to express her excitement. She also took the opportunity to promote her first appearance as the superhero in “Elseworlds,” writing that it will air on December 9th at 8 p.m. ET.
Rose’s Batwoman looks like she stepped right out of the page of a comic book.
EW notes that many of the details of “Elseworlds” are still under wraps, but so far, we know that the crossover will see Green Arrow, the Flash, and Supergirl traveling to Gotham City. In addition to Batwoman, the event will introduce a gaggle of DC Comics characters, including Lois Lane (Grimm‘s Elizabeth Tulloch). Superman, portrayed by Tyler Hoechlin, will also return to the crossover.
We can’t wait for Rose’s Batwoman to make her debut, and we’ve got our fingers crossed that we’ll be seeing a lot more of her in the coming years.
