It’s tough being a lady at the club sometimes. First, there are the thirsty dudes (or gals) who come up to you, try to buy you a drink or get your attention, and won’t accept that you just might not be interested. Then there are those weirdos who think it’s perfectly acceptable to grind on you while you’re dancing with your friends (here’s a reminder: It’s NOT OKAY). And then of course there’s the danger of having someone roofie your drink. Which is, of course, unacceptable and scary and we can’t believe it’s something we even NEED to think about.

But there ARE ways we can raise awareness about this issue and remind ourselves and our friends to stay alert. Take these tweets from Australian funny gal Rebel Wilson, who recently shared an unfortunate incident she experienced, prompting her to remind others about the dangers of being drugged without your knowledge:

Frightening that even such a high profile actress like her could fall victim to someone’s plot to render her unconscious or worse. This isn’t to say you should constantly be fearing for your life, or be hyper-paranoid that every person you meet is out to get you. It’s more a reminder that we need to be vigilant, especially if we notice that something as little as 1/3 of a drink is suddenly causing us to feel unnaturally drowsy or sick.

While in an ideal world, people would KNOW not to drug other people in order to take advantage of them (sexually or otherwise), and our main goal is combatting rape culture, our next step is to protect ourselves.

Thanks, Rebel, for sharing your experience and reminding us once more to always stay safe.
