The Queen's cousin just announced that he's gay, and we are so incredibly inspired
We love few things more than an inspirational coming out story and this one’s a pretty big deal. Because the queen’s cousin, Lord Ivar Mountbatten, just came out as gay. While all the royalty stuff goes over our heads (apparently he’s the son of the 3rd Marquess of Milford Haven, great-great-great-grandson of Queen Victoria, and great-nephew of Earl Mountbatten of Burma… wah?), what we do understand is how incredibly important it is when people choose to come out of the closet.
Yet, for Lord Mountbatten, coming out wasn’t complicated by his connection to royalty – but instead by his generation.
While us ~millennials~ are endlessly critiqued, it’s moments like this that show us how much has changed for the *better* thanks to younger generations. Inclusivity is way more our strong suit when compared to anyone who came before us, and we’re so happy about that.
Lord Mountbatten also explained that coming to terms with his sexuality hasn’t been easy, but it’s been worth it.
With his ex-wife and children’s blessing, Lord Ivar Mountbatten made the decision to publicly come out, and things seem to be going pretty smoothly. For instance, according to Daily Mail UK, Lord Mountbatten is in an extremely happy relationship. His boyfriend, James Coyle, revealed,
Aw! How sweet is that? Here’s to real, true love and happiness for all.
