On Friday, October 12th, at 12:00 p.m. local time, Princess Eugenie officially wed fiancé Jack Brooksbank at Windsor Castle. This marks the second major royal wedding of the year (after Harry and Meghan, of course), and Eugenie, 28, is the second of Queen Elizabeth’s grandchildren to wed in the span of five months.

The ceremony was both traditional and grand, although Princess Charlotte and Prince George low-key stole the show as members of the bridal party.

But let’s talk about THE DRESS.

Princess Eugenie stunned in a V-neck, low back gown by Peter Pilotto and Christopher De Vos. The princess went decidedly veilless (both Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle opted for veils at their nuptials), and completed the look with an emerald tiara and matching earrings.

And while the dress was of course gorgeous, it includes a special and personal detail that you may have missed.

Eugenie famously suffered from scoliosis as a child, and had to have major spinal surgery at just 12 years old. The surgery left her with visible back scars, and her decision to wear a dress with a relatively low back (at least low for a royal wedding) seems like a deliberate choice on her part. In fact, Eugenie implied that she would choose to show her scars in a pre-wedding interview.

We’re loving both this dress and the beautiful statement it offers.
