Hillary Clinton is set to appear on "The Daily Show with Trevor Noah" for the first time ever
As part of her book tour for What Happened, Hillary Clinton will appear on The Daily Show with Trevor Noah for the first time. Well, her first time sitting down with Noah, at least. Back in 2014, she visited the show and spoke at length with Jon Stewart, again in the name of a press tour for her book Hard Choices, which documented her time as Secretary of State. Her new book comes out on September 12th, but she’ll be on tour all fall, making stops across the country at local bookstores.
And some more TV. Clinton will be on Comedy Central visiting Noah on November 1st, but you can catch her on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on September 19th and on CBS This Morning on September 10th.
These will be the first televised appearances by Clinton since the election.
What Happened is all about the 2016 campaign, in which the former presidential candidate reflects upon the choices her campaign made and key events leading up to November 8th, 2016. In an excerpt released last month, Clinton recalls the second debate, in which she writes that Donald Trump made her “skin crawl.” But it’s not just an attack book on Trump. She also reflects on what she could have been done better.
"I go back over my own shortcomings and the mistakes we made. I take responsibility for all of them. You can blame the data, blame the message, blame anything you want — but I was the candidate. It was my campaign. Those were my decisions.”
It can’t be easy coming to terms with the results of the election for Clinton. She also adds in the book:
"I think it’s fair to say that I didn’t realize how quickly the ground was shifting under all our feet. I was running a traditional presidential campaign with carefully thought-out policies and painstakingly built coalitions, while Trump was running a reality TV show that expertly and relentlessly stoked Americans’ anger and resentment.”
She also talks about the “euphoria” of the final campaign events with President Obama, and then the strange, surreal feeling of having to call up Trump and concede the election. But it’s not all wistful thoughts about what could have been.
According to early reviews, Clinton goes on the attack a little bit (and rightfully so, maybe). She calls out Obama for telling her to “grit her teeth” and bear Bernie Sanders, who she alleges paved the way for Trump’s “Crooked Hillary” line of attack. She also criticizes former Vice President Joe Biden for smearing the Democratic Party, along with former FBI director James Comey for, well, for a lot of things.
People are definitely going to be losing their minds when the book comes out and she gives her interviews. People flip their lids anytime Hillary Clinton says or does anything. If you’re still “with her,” or just wondering what the heck happened last year, you should totally tune in to The Daily Show on November 1st and make sure you hear it from her first.
