Today in reasons you really should be afraid of the dark: In the small town of Gardner, Kansas, police set up a surveillance system in a local park to watch for signs of a mountain lion. But instead, it captured photos of a very different frightening species. And we are legitimately terrified.

Gardner is a community of about 19,000 people. Police received reports that there might be a cougar in the town’s Celebration Park. To investigate, they set up trail cameras. These cameras are activated by motion sensors and are a great scientific tool for tracking wildlife.

And now, without further ado, the unusual wildlife in question.

Warning: Once you see these photos, you cannot unsee them.

First of all, it looks like they did see some actual creatures, because coyotes, skunks, and raccoons were photographed out for a stroll in the park during the evenings.

But then, there was something else. And it was something unexpected.

First, these gorilla suits are actually TERRIFYING. They will most certainly haunt our nightmares for years to come.

Seriously, the stuff of nightmares.

Also, OMG, what vision of hell is this?!

But on a less scary note, we can’t deny the genius of Santa Claus having a casual beer in the park.

Then, after seeing the photos, the police department responded on Facebook.

The only thing that can be deducted from this scientific data? Mostly that Gardner, Kansas, is full of comedians.
