Living in the digital age, Photoshop fails are more than common—but this one actually has a legitimate explanation. After fans pointed out what they thought was a major Photoshop mishap in one of the Kardashians’ new Calvin Klein ads, the internet went ablaze. But according to the brand, the image is not quite what it seems.

Earlier this week, Kim Kardashian posted a photo from her family’s Calvin Klein shoot on Instagram. Much like the other photos in the Kardashians’ CK campaign, this one is in black and white and features Kim, Khloé, Kourtney, Kendall, and Kylie surrounded by trees. But fans immediately noticed that one of Kourtney’s arms looked like it had been Photoshopped into a toothpick.

At first glance, it does look like her arm has been edited to look unrealistically skinny, just another example of disturbing American beauty standards, right? As it turns out, not so much.

Here’s the photo on Kim’s Instagram:

If you look closely—like, really closely—you’ll see that Koutney’s arm is actually fully present, it just looks like it’s cut in half thanks to the lighting and resolution of the photo. As Calvin Klein explained to Insider,

"As you'll see from the high-res version of the image [check it out here], there are no issues with Kourtney's arm," the statement said. "However, the light is hitting it which makes it slightly less defined. Unfortunately, when the image is posted to social media in a lower-resolution format, the shape of her arm loses its definition, creating the effect which social media users have commented on."

Well, that solves that—and we’re really glad that this whole thing was just a misunderstanding, rather than a brand trying to make an already slim celebrity appear unnecessarily slimmer.
