Peaches just supported Kim Kardashian in the best way
Earlier this week, Kim Kardashian posted a nude selfie online and it was like she broke the Internet all over again. Despite the fact that Kim was celebrating her body and self-confidence, her pic received a wave of backlash on social media, including from celebs like Chloe Grace Moretz and Bette Midler.
“In all seriousness, I never understand why people get so bothered by what other people choose to do with their lives,” Kardashian wrote in an essay on her website responding to the criticism. “I don’t do drugs, I hardly drink, I’ve never committed a crime—and yet I’m a bad role model for being proud of my body?”
Other celebs, like Amber Rose (notably, Kanye’s ex-girlfriend) and Sharon Osbourne, came out in support of Kim and her right to share her body any way she likes. Now, the musician Peaches is joining their ranks after defending Kim’s nude selfie last night on The Nightly Show With Larry Wilmore.
“If you don’t have haters, you’re not really doing anything,” said Peaches, who appropriately wore a rad shirt with cartoon breasts across the front. “It’s really complicated for women because not only do with have to deal with being objectified but then deal with being empowered and then deal with being called a ‘bitch’ for being empowered. . . But also [we have to] recognize that men have never had to deal with that objectification. It just doesn’t work that way.”
Peaches also pointed out the double-standard evident in all this criticism. “You know, Justin Bieber also tweeted a naked photo of himself, and none of this happened,” she pointed out. We could not agree more. After all, who are we to judge what makes a woman feel empowered? Feminism is about letting women do what they want and live their lives how they wish.
