Stock up on tissues now, because the upcoming Paul Walker documentary is going to be a very emotional ride. Paramount Network released the trailer for I Am Paul Walker, which is set to premiere next month on the network and features the late actor’s friends and family teasing a side of the Fast and Furious star we didn’t know.
In the trailer, Walker’s siblings opened up about growing up with the late action star, who they say embodied the “fast and furious” mentality from a young age. But while the She’s All That star was best known as the magnetic co-lead of the globally beloved action franchise, according to those who knew him best, Hollywood life couldn’t have been further from the truth.
“Cinema didn’t capture it all, couldn’t capture it all,” Rob Cohen, who directed Walker in The Fast and the Furious and The Skulls, said of the actor’s life. He added that being a big movie star didn’t matter to Walker, who he says only cared about two things: his daughter Meadow and surfing. But while the actor was best known as an action star, he was also a noted philanthropist who actively assisted in rebuilding efforts after the devastating 2010 earthquake in Haiti and was passionate about protecting marine wildlife. In 2010, upon returning from Haiti, the actor established disaster relief organization Reach Out Worldwide.
Walker died in a car accident in 2013 after the Porsche he was a passenger in lost control and hit a concrete lamp-post. The driver, Roger Rodas, was also killed in the accident.
“If you loved him the way we did, you would say, ‘Well why him and not us?'” Walker’s friend and Fast and Furious co-star Tyrese Gibson says in the trailer.
I Am Paul Walker is the latest in Paramount Network’s long-running I Am documentary series. The documentary premieres on August 11th on Paramount Network.
