In tragic news, a survivor of the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, has died by suicide. Sydney Aiello, 19, who survived the February 14th attack last year that killed 17 students and staff, has passed over the weekend. According to NBC News, Aiello lost her close friend, Meadow Pollack, during the February attack. A statement from the Pollack family read,
Aiello graduated from Marjory Stoneman in 2018. Her mother, Cara, told CBS Miami that her daughter had been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder and suffered from survivor’s guilt following the mass shooting. She reportedly had intended to go into the medical field to help others.
A GoFundMe page has been created for Aiello’s family. The page describes Aiello as a “beloved daughter, sister and friend to many” who enjoyed yoga, cheerleading, and “brightening up the days of others.”
