The little girl who was awestruck by Michelle Obama's portrait went as her hero for Halloween
Back in March, then 2-year-old Parker Curry captured the country’s hearts when she was photographed standing awestruck in front of former first lady Michelle Obama’s portrait. She later got to meet Obama in person—and had a mini dance party, no less. So when it came time to choose a Halloween costume, we’re not surprised that Parker chose to dress as her hero. The 3-year-old’s mom, Jessica Curry, told BuzzFeed News that her daughter was adamant about dressing as her favorite portrait.
To help Parker’s Halloween dreams become a reality, Jessica reached out to seamstress Alisha Welsh, who owns a company called Magnolia Lake Children’s Clothing. Welsh had previously offered to make Parker a replica of Obama’s portrait dress (which was designed by Michelle Smith of MILLY), and the finished product arrived on Halloween—just in time for trick-or-treating.
Accompanied by her younger sister Ava (who dressed as a police escort) Parker reportedly had an amazing time telling everyone she was Michelle Obama.
The picture of Parker’s costume is almost too cute to handle.
The costume was a huge hit, and even Obama herself told Parker how much she loved it.
It’s clear that Obama has had a huge impact on Parker’s life. Jessica told BuzzFeed News that the preschooler “talks about Michelle Obama every day.”
It just goes to show how important it is for young girls to have role models who look like them to look up to. Happy Halloween, Parker.
