While millions peacefully protested around the world in March For Our Lives rallies against gun violence, the National Rifle Association took aim at the Parkland shooting survivors. Though the NRA stayed silent on Twitter, the minds behind the group did not hold back on Facebook. There, the organization shared a message mocking the event, as well as implying that the march was orchestrated by gun-hating billionaires and Hollywood elites to push an anti-gun agenda.

Following the Parkland, Florida shooting that left 17 people dead, students, parents, teachers, and others supporting stricter gun control filled the streets on Saturday, March 24th. But that morning, ahead of the march, the NRA posted a message on Facebook.

“Today’s protests aren’t spontaneous,” the post read. “Gun-hating billionaires and Hollywood elites are manipulating and exploiting children as part of their plan to DESTROY the Second Amendment and strip us of our right to defend ourselves and our loved ones.” The post included a video that looked quite similar in style to the Women’s March’s aesthetic, which we assume was intentional. It was a call for people to join the NRA.

Unsurprisingly, the NRA’s desperate plea for attention surrounding the march did not end there.

On Thursday, March 22nd, NRA TV released a video of host Colion Noir taunting the Parkland shooting survivors. He called the March For Our Lives a “carnival” and a “festival masquerading as a march.”

All this does is prove that the NRA is clearly having a hard time coming to terms with the fact that this generation is going to redefine our politics. Whether they like it or not, the tides are turning.
