Michael Phelps' swim cap dramatically ripped in the middle of the men's relay race and OMG his reaction
Last night, Michael Phelps swam for his 20th and 21st Olympic Gold Medals at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, and it was amazing. Even celebs were freaking out over the amazingness that is the USA Swimmers. Last night, Michael set a world record for swimming in the fifth Olympic finals in one event, his signature 200-meter Butterfly. AND, he and some of the other guys from Team USA swam for gold in the 4×200-meter relay.
But just before Michael was about to jump in the pool, disaster struck.
Michael had a major wardrobe malfunction, and his swim cap broke. Remember, these guys swim a 200-meter in under 2 minutes, so Michael doesn’t have much time.
His face says it all — it’s a true “Oh, shit!” moment!
Understandably, Michael was freaking out a little.
Luckily, Connor Dwyer, who was already done with his part of the relay, came to the rescue!
He even tried to lend a hand in putting it on! Such good teamwork!
A setback like that could shake up even the strongest athletes, right? WRONG! Phelps, Lochte, Dwyer and Haas still brought it home for Team USA.
Michael Phelps started the race with a healthy lead for Team USA, and he kept it going, bringing it home for Gold!
