Here's one more thing New Girl creator Liz Meriwether wishes she had gotten into the series finale
The gang is officially out of the Loft, the last game of True American has been played, and New Girl has officially come to an end. The two episode finale of the long-running Fox series was everything we could have wanted and then some. Aly and Winston had their first son and Nick and Jess got married and moved out of the loft.
The episodes also featured a slew of our favorite recurring characters throughout the series, from Fawn Moscato (Zoe Lister-Jones) and Jess’s parents (Jamie Lee Curtis and Rob Reiner) to Sadie (June Diane Raphael) and Tran (Ralph Ahn). But while we couldn’t think of a better way to say goodbye to Nick, Jess, Schmidt, Winston, and Cece, there was one more thing series creator Liz Meriwether would have added.
During the finale, Nick and Jess receive notice that they’re being evicted from the loft (*sobs*), which is being turned into a non-residential space — which is later revealed to be Winston’s aka Prank Sinatra’s “greatest prank.” But as the crew came together to say goodbye to their beloved home, they reminisced about all the good memories at the loft, from Schmidt’s penis cast to Winston and Cece’s first real bonding experience.
But while the episode was full of adorable moments that reminded us just how much we’ll miss the New Girl crew, the one that killed us the most was the beautiful moment between Nick and Schmidt, where Nick finally professes his love for his best friend.
Of all the magical things the series finale gave us, this was by far our favorite. And to think Meriwether thought about giving us two major Nick/Schmidt moments in the finale. While we’re so sad to see New Girl come to an end, we’re glad the series came to an end with a major milestone in Nick and Schmidt’s friendship.
