Netflix might be making this major change to their brand
Netflix has already given us so much, but that doesn’t mean the streaming juggernaut is going to stop anytime soon. Now it looks like Netflix wants to create merchandise for their original programming. As Bloomberg reported, there is a job posting for a senior manager at Netflix, who would be in charge of licensing, merchandising, and promotion.
That means — at least according to the Netflix job posting — that Netflix-themed books, comics, toys, collectibles, soundtracks, and apparel are on the horizon.
Networks creating their own merchandise is nothing new. Every network from FOX to HBO has themed products based on their TV shows. But while you’ve been able to get your hands on official Game of Thrones gear for years (like the Westeros Monopoly board game!), this new position for Netflix means that shows like House of Cards, Fuller House, and Orange Is the New Black might be getting Netflix-approved T-shirts, mugs, and figurines.
Does this mean we could get our hands on clothing inspired by Kimmy Schmidt and her happy-go-lucky style?! Yes, please!
Netflix has already experimented with selling Stranger Things clothing, mugs, patches, and jewelry at HotTopic. You can even buy Eleven’s pink dress at the store if you want to feel like the ultimate badass … in a really cute dress.
So, Netflix selling products for all of their TV shows feels like the next logical step. Because the market — and the demand — already exists.
While you can always go on Etsy to get non-official (yet AMAZING) gifts inspired by your favorite Netflix shows, this job position is pretty great news. And until someone is hired to be in charge of brand merchandising for Netflix, you can buy Tituss Burgess’ Pinot Noir, inspired by his Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt character Tituss Andromedon’s song “Peeno Noir.”
