These national women's soccer teammates are officially engaged, and huge congrats are in order
Congratulations are in order for National Women’s Soccer League teammates Ali Krieger and Ashlyn Harris, who just announced they’re engaged after a nearly decade-long romance. The couple confirmed the news in an interview with People on March 14th, sharing details about both their relationship and their upcoming wedding—which will happen later this year.
Harris opened up about the early stages of their romance way back in 2010, telling the magazine, “We became really close friends, and we just hung out, we clicked, and we had so much in common. We always sat next to each other on the bus and on flights, and we kind of just talked about our dreams and our hopes and what we wanted to do one day when we grew up. Because at the time, we were kids.”
Krieger revealed that she loves Harris for her “creativity and ambition,” saying, “I find that so attractive, and the way that she makes me a better person. I think that I’m very quiet and reserved. Since being with Ash, I really feel like I’ve blossomed into the woman that I want to be, and she’s helped me become the woman I am.”
The couple, who both play for Orlando Pride, hadn’t publicly confirmed their romance until now, making their engagement announcement all the more special for soccer fans. Harris shared, “We became more and more confident within ourselves and then clearly within our relationship. We were like, now is the right time…and I feel like it’s a massive weight off of my shoulders. Finally, after all these years, I just feel like I don’t have to hide anything or feel like I’m not living up to the community I’m in.”
Harris proposed to Krieger back in September while watching a beachside sunset after the final game of their season. The two are planning a wedding in Florida at the end of the year after Harris competes in the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup this summer.
So many congratulations, you two!
