The 2018 MTV Movie & TV Awards aired last night, Monday, June 18th, and while there were a ton of stand-out moments, we’re currently cheering for one in particular: Millie Bobby Brown’s acceptance speech and anti-bullying rally cry.
In case you missed it, The Stranger Things star recently deleted her Twitter account after becoming the target of online harassment. But the actress rose above the negativity and called out her bullies while accepting the award for Best Performance in a TV Show — and also making sure her fans know she’s always there for them.
Brown wasn’t physically in attendance at the awards show due to a knee injury, but she shared her message loud and clear via a prerecorded statement.
Then, in true shero fashion, Brown added, “There should be no space in this world for bullying, and I’m not going to tolerate it, and neither should any of you. If you need a reminder of how worthy you are and to rise above the hate, message me on Instagram.”
Brown may only be 14 years old, but she’s so much wiser and kinder than her online bullies. (Seriously, this is what hope for the future looks like.) We couldn’t be more proud of the young star for using her platform in such a powerful way, and we’re confident she made a difference with her words. Bravo, girl!
