2013 was a big year for Miley Cyrus. It was the year she chopped off her hair, got un-engaged to Liam Hemsworth, and made “twerking” a household term (for the uninitiated). She released Bangerz, her fourth studio album, and her singles became instant hits. Remember the “Wrecking Ball” music video? Now, Cyrus is being sued for $300 million for copyright infringement on “We Can’t Stop.” So let’s examine the “We Can’t Stop” lyrics.

Here’s what’s happening. A Jamaican dancehall artist named Flourgon (real name: Michael May) claims that “We Can’t Stop” is very similar to his 1988 song “We Run Things.” And here’s where it gets interesting. Flourgon isn’t suing Cyrus for directly stealing his lyrics or his melody. Instead, he claims that she stole his “unique and creative lyrical phraseology in order to establish an overarching and pervasive theme […] in the realm of self-discovery and self-governings,” TMZ reports.

Hmm. If Flourgon is suing Cyrus for stealing the theme of his song, it seems like that will be difficult to prove. Artists write songs with similar themes all the time: love, loss, friendship, heartbreak, self-expression. But nonetheless, Flourgon is suing Cyrus, her writers, her manager, RCA Records, and Sony in hopes of keeping “We Can’t Stop” off the market.

Here are the “We Can’t Stop” lyrics.

It’s our party we can do what we want
It’s our party we can say what we want
It’s our party we can love who we want
We can kiss who we want
We can screw who we want

Red cups and sweaty bodies everywhere
Hands in the air like we don’t care
Cause we came to have so much fun now
Bet somebody here might get some now
If you’re not ready to go home
Can I get a “hell no”?
Cause we gonna go all night
Till we see the sunlight, alright

So la-da-di-da-di we like to party
Dancing with Molly
Doing whatever we want
This is our house
This is our rules
And we can’t stop
And we won’t stop
Can’t you see it’s we who own the night?
Can’t you see it we who bout that life

And we can’t stop
And we won’t stop
We run things, things don’t run we
Don’t take nothing from nobody

It’s our party we can do what we want
It’s our party we can say what we want
It’s our party we can love who we want
We can kiss who we want
We can screw who we want

To my homegirls here with the big butt
Shaking it like we at a strip club
Remember only God can judge ya
Forget the haters, cause somebody loves ya
And everyone in line in the bathroom
Trying to get a line in the bathroom
We all so turnt up here
Getting turnt up yea yea

So la-da-di-da-di we like to party
Dancing with Molly
Doing whatever we want
This is our house
This is our rules
And we can’t stop
And we won’t stop
Can’t you see it’s we who own the night?
Can’t you see it we who bout’ that life

And we can’t stop
And we won’t stop
We run things, things don’t run we
Don’t take nothing from nobody

It’s our party we can do what we want
It’s our party we can say what we want
It’s our party we can love who we want
We can kiss who we want
We can screw who we want

It’s our party we can do what we want to!
It’s our house we can love who we want to!
It’s our song we can sing if we want to!
It’s my mouth I can say what I want to
Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Eh!

And we can’t stop
And we won’t stop
We run things, things don’t run we
Don’t take nothing from nobody

We don’t know what will come of this lawsuit, but it will certainly be interesting to see.
