The internet just realized Meryl Streep looked like the fairy godmother from "Shrek" at the 2018 Oscars
The 2018 Oscars were last night, March 4th, and the internet has officially decided that Hollywood extraordinaire Meryl Streep’s Oscar look distinctly resembled a certain animated character. The Post nominee was decked out in a beautiful red V-neck gown with her hair in an updo…and the internet wasted no time in pointing out that she strongly resembled fairy godmother from Shrek. Twitter users put pictures of Streep and Fairy Godmother side-by-side, noting the resemblance right down to Streep’s glasses.
One user said, “Meryl Streep looks like the fairy godmother from Shrek and I am ready for her big musical break. I NEED A HERO.” LOL.
Streep, a 21-time Oscar nominee who was nominated for Best Actress last night, has gone down in history as the most-nominated actor of all time. This year she was nominated for her role in Steven Spielberg’s The Post, a historical film outlining The Washington Post’s decision to publish classified documents about the Vietnam War.
And in case you were wondering, Streep’s scarlet gown was Christian Dior couture, and the glasses were designed by Oliver Peoples x Alain Mikli.
Streep will soon have a hand in bringing another beloved character back to life: She’s set to play Mary Poppins’ cousin Topsy in the upcoming 2018 film Mary Poppins Returns. The film stars Emily Blunt (hola, Devils Wears Prada reunion!) and will be a musical.
We can’t wait to see Ms. Streep bring her fairy godmother-like magic to the role.
