Here are a few subtle clues that Meghan Markle may be running the @SussexRoyal Instagram account
Meghan Markle may not look at Twitter, but she’s more than likely behind her and Prince Harry‘s new joint Instagram page. The Duchess of Sussex, who is preparing to welcome the couple’s first child in the coming days, made the decision to delete all of her personal social media accounts in January 2018, ahead of her May wedding. The previous April, she shut down The Tig, her lifestyle blog. However, there have been a few clues that Meghan is the one managing the couple’s @SussexRoyal Instagram account, which launched earlier this month. Here are a few hints that Meghan is behind the social media curtain.
American spellings of words
While English is, of course, the official language of both the United States and the United Kingdom, certain words are spelled (or spelt, depending where you’re from!) differently. In the captions of Meghan and Harry’s Instagram posts, they tend to stick to the American versions of certain words—like using “organization” rather than “organisation” to highlight to work of WellChild and Baby2Baby or “re-energized” instead of “re-energised” in a post to thank fans for donating to their chosen charities.
…and other Americanisms!
While sharing the impact of fans donating to charities in lieu of sending baby gifts, Meghan and Harry’s page noted that Los Angeles-based organization Baby2Baby “received over 5,000 products to disperse to children in need, including cribs, books, backpacks, diapers.” But in England, diapers are usually referred to as “nappies.”
