Everything we know about Meghan Markle’s lavish baby shower, from celebrity guests to a cotton candy machine
Meghan Markle is being feted with a baby shower fit for a princess. Meghan’s friends didn’t hold back when it came to planning the perfect shower for the future royal mom. The party is reportedly being held in a suite at The Mark hotel, whose head chef happens to be world-renowned culinary expert Jean-Georges Vongerichten.
A steady stream of celebrity attendees arrived (with gifts in hand!) at the hotel, including Amal Clooney, Gayle King, Meghan’s wedding makeup artist Daniel Martin, former Suits costar Abigail Spencer, Toronto-based stylist Jessica Mulroney and designer Misha Nonoo.
A large cotton candy machine was also pictured being wheeled into the hotel. Meghan has been known to spoil her friends and co-workers with special treats. “She would always do spirit boosters for the crew on-set—for example, having gourmet burgers delivered. It’s the same stuff she does with her office at [Kensington Palace] now. I came by there one day, and she had ordered an incredible ice cream and sorbet stand for the office. They were remarking how it was the ‘best day of work ever.’ It warmed my heart to see her just continuing to be her and bring her style to the U.K.,” a former costar told PEOPLE.
Guests are likely walking away with special gifts. A delivery of more than a dozen luxury carry-on suitcases by Away (which can be personalized with monograms) arrived at the hotel on Wednesday morning. New York City-based harpist and singer Erin Hill, who has played with Cyndi Lauper, Kanye West. and Josh Groban, also arrived at the hotel with her harp in tow. She’s played solo at The Royal Albert Hall and Carnegie Hall.
On Tuesday, February 19th, one of Meghan’s first shower gifts arrived: a crib by Babyletto, which specializes in eco-friendly, modern cribs.
Last month, a group of Meghan’s close friends opening up to People for the first time about the woman they know and love amid months of negative press in the U.K.: “Meg has silently sat back and endured the lies and untruths,” her former costar said. With Meghan and her husband, Prince Harry, expecting their first child this spring, “we worry about what this is doing to her and the baby,” adds the costar. “It’s wrong to put anyone under this level of emotional trauma, let alone when they’re pregnant.”
The sources shared intimate details about the kind of friend Meghan is to them. “She will stop whatever she’s doing and laugh with you and cry with you,” said a friend and former colleague. Her former colleague shared, “If I’m thrown some kind of curveball, I always think, ‘I gotta talk to Meg.’ We talk daily. And the first thing out of her mouth is, ‘How are the kids? How are you?’ I’m not even allowed to ask about her until she finds out about me. Meg is the most generous with her wins,” a close confidante shared. “She wins, everyone wins.”
