It’s (almost) official: McDonald’s Szechuan sauce is coming back this month, and this time, the release is going to be big. Although the fast food chain has yet to make an official announcement about the prodigal sauce’s return, numerous employees and other people connected to McDonald’s have leaked details to So when can you get the coveted McDonald’s Szechuan sauce? Its release is coming soon.

Let’s back up for a second, though: Those who aren’t diehard McDonald’s fans are probably wondering why there is hype surrounding Szechuan sauce. We’re going to make a long story short: Back in 1998, McDonald’s released Szechuan sauce, a McNuggets sauce, as a tie-in with the Disney film Mulan. The release was limited, but fast food fans absolutely loved it.

Fast forward to the present, when a Season 3 episode of Rick and Morty did a gag lobbying for the return of the sauce. The episode eventually led to McDonald’s releasing a very limited amount of the sauce for one day only. It was so limited, in fact, that some people were even selling the packets on eBay for $25 or more.

Fans were not happy with the very limited release of the sauce, and McDonald’s listened — the company promised that it would do a much bigger release this winter, although they didn’t release many details.

It appears McDonald’s has finally delivered on its promise. The long-awaited Szechuan sauce has reportedly been delivered to some McDonald’s stores around the U.S. One employee, who didn’t want to be named, showed Heavy a photo of a huge order: about 1,500 sauces in just one restaurant. The sauce isn’t for sale just yet, but some customers and employees have already sampled it.

So when can you get your hands on McDonald’s Szechuan sauce?

Unfortunately, those details are still under wraps and will probably stay that way until McDonald’s makes an official statement. However, Heavy did a pretty serious investigation, and the site has come up with some helpful clues. According to leaked information from McDonald’s employees, promotion will begin on February 26th, although that could just be the day advertising starts and not the day the sauce becomes available in stores.

It also looks like this may be another limited release. Promotional information obtained by Heavy says each restaurant will receive six cases of 250 sauces each, and a printout sent with the shipment states: “This is a one-time shipment and no product is available for reorder.” However, the source did say that they think it will stick around for a long time.

You might have to wait a while to dip your McNuggets into Szechuan sauce, but the wait will probably (definitely) be worth it. We’ll keep an eye on McDonald’s until then.
