Tuesday, January 30th is the annual State of the Union address. More specifically, it is Donald Trump’s first State of the Union address. The speech, which outlines the president’s agenda and provides an economic report, is required by the U.S. Constitution. While the address is intended for Congress, in the last few decades, it’s become an event for the American people as well. This year, there are many people who are not quite looking forward to Donald Trump’s address. Some Democrats are wearing black to the speech, following Hollywood’s lead and shouting out the Time’s Up movement.Others are boycotting altogether. And some people, like Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA), are doing even more than that.

Congresswoman Maxine Waters is one of Trump’s toughest and most powerful critics, and she has been since the very start. And she just announced that she will give her own national address on BET directly after Trump’s State of the Union address. Waters’ speech will be part a program called Angela Rye’s Station of the Union. Rye, an attorney and political commentator, partnered with the network to executive produce quarterly programs focusing on issues that Black Americans face. On Tuesday, Rye’s BET special will discuss Trump’s first year, specifically in relation to how it has affected Black Americans and the socio-political landscape.

We already can’t wait for Maxine Waters to deliver her own State of the Union address.

Representative Waters will open the special and the conversation will carry on from there, BuzzFeed reports. Because of Trump’s recent tweets about how well Black Americans are doing under his presidency, this special seems even more necessary.

It doesn’t take much research to land on the truth about how many Black Americans and Americans of color are really doing under Trump’s presidency. Many are boycotting Trump’s State of the Union address, but we hope they don’t boycott this BET special.

Maxine Waters has been so vocal in her fight against Trump’s policies and everything he stands for.

It will be nice to have Waters’s voice enhanced on such a significant night.

Tune in to BET on Tuesday, January 30th to hear her important words. We know we will.
