If there’s been one bright spot in the last seven months of Trump-dom, it’s Maxine Waters. The Democratic congresswoman has been a powerful advocate for women and minorities in the House this year, and she was honored this weekend during BET’s Black Girls Rock event for her tireless efforts. And she brought the fire — as usual.

In an impassioned speech, Waters had a strong message for the “right-wing ultra conservatives” who try to come for her.

Naturally, she received thunderous applause.

Rep. Waters (D-Calif.)  — or Auntie Maxine, as many call her — has been unapologetically against Donald Trump and all he stands for from the beginning of his presidency, often questioning his competence at his job.

And she’s taken a stand against his staff, too. Her hit catchphrase, “reclaiming my time,” went viral last week after she laid the smackdown on Trump’s treasury secretary, Steve Mnuchin, who tried to dodge her questions by running out the clock on her time during a congressional hearing.

The catchphrase made it into her Black Girls Rock speech last night, along with some inspiring words about how the love of other Black women has encouraged her to keep fighting.

She said,

Auntie Maxine has become #goals for millennials. She’s a pillar of inspiration, especially for the Black community. The 78-year-old California congresswoman’s open and direct criticism of the administration is refreshing. Her interviews often go viral, and her faces during congressional hearings quickly become memes.

So it comes as no surprise that Black Girls Rock honored her this year; the awards show is a yearly celebration of Black women in the fields of entertainment, social justice, politics and science. This year’s celebration airs on August 22nd on BET. Don’t miss it!
