This new Mary Poppins Returns clip is so emotional, we dare you not to cry
After months of anticipation, Disney’s Mary Poppins Returns is nearly here and it looks supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. With the film’s release just three weeks away, Disney dropped a new teaser clip on November 26th, and Emily Blunt proves, once again, that she is the perfect successor to Julie Andrews as the titular magical nanny.
The scene sees Mary Poppins reunite with her now-adult former charges, Michael (Ben Whishaw) and Jane (Emily Mortimer) for the first time since bidding them farewell 25 years earlier. And something about the swell of the music, the mood, and the return of one of our most beloved childhood icons is making us feel all the feelings right now.
The sequel to the iconic 1964 film—which will be set in 1930s London—entails Mary Poppins reappearing in the life of the Banks family after the death of Michael’s wife, leaving him to raise his three children with the help of his sister Jane. Joining in on the adventure are Lin-Manuel Miranda as Jack the lamplighter and Mary Poppins’ zany cousin Topsy (Meryl Streep).
The film also stars Colin Firth, Julie Walters, and Dick Van Dyke. Yes, Mary Poppins Returns features Emily Blunt, Paddington, Alexander Hamilton, THREE Mamma Mia! cast members, and Dick Van Dyke. What more could you want?
Mary Poppins Returns hits theaters on December 19th.
