If you’re watching the 2018 Oscars tonight, you might be wondering, will Margot Robbie win an Academy Award for I, Tonya? We loved the movie so much — and knowing how much Robbie’s husband was involved makes the success of this film even sweeter. Despite her growing fame, Robbie does her best to keep her personal life private. Robbie’s marriage with husband, British assistant director Tom Ackerley, has remained on the down-low since their 2016 wedding. But wanting to know more about the Australian actress, we did a little research into Ackerley and the blossoming of their relationship.

According to PageSix.com, Robbie and Ackerly supposedly met on the set of 2014’s Suite Française where Ackerley was the third assistant director and Robbie starred as Celine Joseph. The two then became roommates that same year and lived with a group of mutual close friends.

Robbie and Ackerley secretly tied the knot in an intimate ceremony in Byron Bay in December 2016. In a November 2017 interview with Vogue Australia, Robbie noted that married life with Ackerley is not much different than when they dated and roomed together.

“That’s the thing, we were best friends and roommates before and now we’re like best friends and roommates still, so nothing’s really changed at all,” Robbie said. She then looked at her wedding ring. “Other than the fact that I get to wear this on the weekends. I can’t obviously wear it during the week when I’m working – I don’t want to lose it on set.”

Ackerley and Robbie co-produced I, Tonya and together, alongside friends Josey McNamara and Sophia Kerr, the couple founded their production company, LuckyChap Entertainment. The team is also currently working on two other films, Dreamland and Terminal, which are both currently in post-production. #Powercouple.

Robbie said in a May 2016 interview with Vogue that she always had feelings for Ackerley before they dated.

Although we completely respect the couple’s privacy, we adore hearing about our favorite stars being in love. Robbie and Ackerley’s I, Tonya is currently playing in select theaters.
